Before and After: Sustainable Outdoor Living
Before
The client came to us with a front and backyard in need of a transformation—both lacked irrigation, were overrun with weeds and grass all over, and had minimal plant life. The front yard featured a large empty space where a juniper was recently removed, while the backyard struggled with poor drainage from an old in ground pool and no functional layout. The client envisioned a natural, simple, and low-maintenance landscape that felt neat and inviting. Their goals included adding a patio with pavers for entertaining, creating a side-yard veggie garden with screening to the neighbors house, and designing a kid-friendly backyard. They requested native plants that would be low maintenance.

After
In the front yard, we introduced a planting palette using a mix of native and non-natives anchored by standout specimens like the Suminagashi Japanese Maple, Black Dragon Japanese Cedar and Red Flowering Currant. These selections offer year-round structure and seasonal interest without overwhelming the space with flowers or upkeep.
For the backyard, we installed a paver patio to create a welcoming area for entertaining and family time. To support sustainable outdoor living, we addressed drainage concerns, added efficient irrigation, incorporated raised beds and, a screening structure along the side yard for gardening.
The final result is a cohesive and grounded landscape that meets the client’s goals—natural, beautiful, and built to thrive with minimal maintenance.
